hens are now free to spread their wings each year beyond the confines of cages, thanks to cage-free wins around the world
We exist to end the abuse of animals raised for food. Together, we are here, for the animals.
What began as a tiny grassroots organisation in the US in 2005, has since grown into an effective and global nonprofit, launching in the UK in 2016. Throughout our journey, one thing has stayed the same.
We started by focusing on institutional change—holding companies to account
Bolstered by our success in the US, we brought our hard-hitting campaigns to the UK, working first on eliminating cages for egg-laying hens. Our establishment here was marked by a wave of corporate cage-free commitments impacting millions of hens.

Ending the worst abuses of innocent animals who live painful lives—suffering from extreme overgrowth, confinement, crippling injuries, and frightening deaths.
Pizza Hut, Wagamama, Pret A Manger, KFC, ASK Italian, Travelodge—as well as Tesco, Spar, Lidl, Aldi, Morrisons and many other leading brands in the food industry—have all enacted animal welfare policies thanks to our tireless activism and campaigning.

Individual behaviour change goes hand-in-hand with institutional change
That’s why we work relentlessly to empower people with knowledge. To open their eyes to the horrifying ways in which animals are treated on factory farms. To become activists and leave animals off our plates.

We create real social change in collaboration with others. After all, this is a movement that’s bigger than ourselves.
So, we share resources. Train other nonprofit organisations. And, cultivate a welcoming, collaborative and change-making community.
That’s why in 2016 we created the Open Wing Alliance (OWA), a global coalition of organisations united in a common goal: to end the abuse of chickens worldwide.
This is just the beginning. We’ll continue to uplift our movement. To grow our impact. And, through our actions every single day, end the abuse of animals raised for food.
