This weekend, we’ve been protesting at KFC drive-thrus across the country, demanding that the fast-food giant keep its promise to improve the lives of millions of chickens.

In a move praised by press and customers alike, KFC publicly committed to the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC) in 2019. But, in November 2024, they accidentally revealed that they would not be meeting the 2026 deadline, leaving millions of chickens to suffer.

After months of dialogue and peaceful protest, we’ve had enough.

KFC has continued to ignore calls to publish a new timeline to stop using cruelly-bred Frankenchickens. It is even ignoring its own customers: members of the public have sent 16,000 emails to KFC voicing their anger at the company’s backtracking on the BCC.

Yet KFC is still stalling on its animal welfare improvements, while also announcing a £1.5 billion expansion in the UK and Ireland, creating another 500 restaurants. This will mean an even bigger number of chickens suffering.

So we’ve escalated our protest. This weekend, protesters hit KFCs across the country, obstructing drive-thrus with protesters in car costumes covered in bloody parody KFC logos.

A diabolical Colonel Sanders was also in attendance, as dozens of protesters carried placards, banners, and signs calling on KFC to reinstate its promise to stop using fast-growing breeds of chickens.

KFC supplier farms are filled with Frankenchickens, birds who have suffering coded into their DNA, animals whose health is devastated by KFC’s hunger for profit. This enormous, globe-spanning corporation has broken its promise to improve the lives of their birds.

The BCC is an animal welfare policy aimed at reducing the worst forms of suffering for chickens raised for meat.

Chickens are the most farmed animal in the UK, with 1.1 billion raised and killed for meat every year. A whopping 90% of these are Frankenchickens, who grow so big, so fast that their bodies can’t keep up. This is the biggest animal welfare crisis in the UK right now, and KFC is a big part of this.
