In recent months, the Lidl chicken scandal continued to grow as investigations across Europe revealed horrifying conditions on its suppliers’ farms. But in the UK, Lidl tried to escape the controversy…until now.
Yesterday, a brave whistleblower who’d spent months working on a farm that supplies Lidl with chicken went public.
The footage he shared was harrowing.
Chickens crushed by forklift trucks. Survivors crawling on the floor with broken legs. Internal organs showing through open wounds. Piles of dead bodies just dumped in heaps. Scenes that no animal lover could fail to be disturbed by.
Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, and now the UK. Five investigations in five countries have revealed the truth behind Lidl’s lies. It’s clear that Lidl has an issue. The level of systemic suffering caused by the use of fastgrowing reeds, or Frankenchickens needs to be addressed.
While animals are suffering like this, we won’t rest. We’re hitting the supermarket with all we’ve got. We need Lidl to commit to the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC), a set of criteria that improves the lives of chickens raised for meat.
Until Lidl commit to the BCC, our campaigners, volunteers, and supporters will be continuing to spread the news about Lidl’s cruelty.
