Naturalist and TV star Chris Packham has joined forces with UK animal protection groups to take action for chickens.

In a win for chickens across the country, naturalist and TV star Chris Packham has joined forces with UK animal protection groups to ask supermarkets to stop selling suffering.
The campaign launches today with a petition fronted by the star. Within just a few hours, thousands of animal lovers have already added their name.
Chris is calling on retailers to stop ‘selling suffering’ and commit to the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC) , in partnership with The Humane League UK, Open Cages, Animal Equality UK, and the RSPCA - who are signatories of the BCC and have been urging retailers to address the issue for many years.
Every year, millions upon millions of chickens are bred to become oversized FrankenChickens, crammed into bleak, overcrowded sheds, and slaughtered at just a few weeks old. As a bird lover, I despair at the thought of these gentle, intelligent, and sensitive animals forced to endure such suffering.
I think this is the biggest cause of hidden animal suffering in Britain.
-Chris Packham
It’s time for our leading supermarkets - Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Asda, Coop, Iceland, Tesco, Aldi and Lidl - to finally do right by their customers and by chickens who are suffering on factory farms.
We are tired of waiting while chickens suffer.
Please let supermarkets know you won’t stand for this cruelty: sign the petition now.
