For people, October 2nd is just another day of the year. For farmed animals, it memorializes their life of suffering.

Life on a factory farm promises nothing but unimaginable suffering for farmed animals all around the world. That’s why on this World Farm Animals Day, we’re calling on you to join us in standing up for the animals.

In just one year, an estimated 130 billion animals are forced to live in overcrowded conditions, often deprived of sunlight and room to enjoy their natural behaviours. They are drugged, abused, and brutally slaughtered—only to end up on a shelf wrapped in plastic in your local supermarket.

The history of World Farm Animals Day

Mahatma Gandhi believed in peaceful activism and treating all living beings with respect. Each year on his birthdate, October 2nd, we celebrate World Farm Animals Day to carry out his message of respect and non-violence for abused animals.

Since 1983, World Farm Animals Day has existed to raise awareness of the unfathomable number of lives lost. Today, more than ever, it is vital that we take action against these inhumane farming practices in order to create a future where animals no longer have to endure this unneccessary suffering.

What we are doing for farm animals

Animals raised for food are often kept in cages or barns, too tightly packed for them to turn around or lay down. They are pumped with antibiotics to fight off disease caused by their unsanitary living conditions. They have been bred to grow too large and too fast, leading to painful medical issues.

These conditions aren't just one-offs, or just happening in some countries. An estimated 94% of all meat, dairy, and egg products come from factory farms that exist all over the world.

At The Humane League UK, we are working relentlessly to end the abuse of animals raised for food. By putting pressure on corporations to commit to more humane standards for these animals, in Europe and globally, we will not stop fighting for meaningful change.

How you can make a difference for the animals

Each year, more animals are killed for food in factory farms than hunting, experimentation, and in animal shelters combined. The sheer numbers and focus on profitability mean that these factory farms sacrifice the humane treatment of these animals for financial gain.

These animals cannot speak for themselves, but we believe in giving them a voice. We'll continue to stand up for them, but we can’t do it alone. That’s why this World Farm Animals Day, we’re calling upon compassionate animal lovers like you to help be the change for the countless animals that live tortured lives on these factory farms.

Donate today to turn your compassion into action. Your gift can help end this abuse.

On World Farm Animals Day, thank you for taking a stand for the animals!
