Ever wondered about our fundraising activities, and how you can get involved?

Fundraising is a huge part of any charity’s activities. It not only supplements our income, which allows us to help more animals, but also raises our public profile.

Why do we raise money?

As a charity, we are fully funded by donations. Most of this comes from meta-organisations that support charities, and from individuals who regularly donate large amounts of money to non-profits, but fundraising is a big part of what makes charities run.

All of the money we receive goes directly towards making change, so fundraising is invaluable in saving animals from suffering. The more money we have, the more animals we can save. It is a direct link to our mission: to end the abuse of animals raised for food.

Not only does fundraising allow us to spare more animals from suffering, but it also raises our public profile. Fundraising for The Humane League raises awareness of the plight of farmed animals, often to people who may not have otherwise come across it.

Fundraising also allows us to expand our work. Often, donations are key to starting new projects.

When you choose to donate, you create change. Individually or collectively, your gift acts as a catalyst. Take our Making History for Fishes project for example; donations have kickstarted it and brought in new expertise and evidence to press for a change that will benefit countless lives.

Who raises money?

Anyone can raise money!

We hold regular fundraising events for our volunteers (and staff!) to get involved in, but they are open to anyone who would like to participate. Sometimes volunteers will get friends or family members involved, which is also exceedingly beneficial to raising awareness of our cause.

Our fundraisers are hugely creative and varied; we often start with a theme and encourage participants to choose their own activities within it. This makes the fundraisers inclusive; you can pick your activity - genuinely anything - and go from there.

There is no level of aptitude required; if you are a regular runner you might choose a 5k, 10k, marathon distance or anything in between, if you are a climber you might do a sponsored climb. You could challenge yourself to a walk or hike, you could run a sponsored dinner party, plan a knit-a-thon, create some artwork, or literally anything else. The sky's the limit!

Our incredible volunteers consistently wow me with their exceptional efforts to raise money for the animals! I love that everyone brings their own unique style and skills to their personal fundraisers, showcasing that there is no right and wrong way to fundraise for the animals who need us.

Past fundraisers

Past fundraisers have included the hugely successful Move for the Animals, a Christmas Advent Calendar, the Impact Squad, and more.

I have personally taken part in fundraisers for The Humane League over the past few years, and have greatly enjoyed it. I have found it an incredible way to join different goals and areas of interest; I challenged myself physically by choosing sponsored runs, I raised money for the cause I support, and met some incredible people along the way.

Most recently I achieved a personal best in running a 10K - something I’m not sure I would have been motivated to attempt if it hadn’t been for a greater cause!

Fundraisers can be solo or group activities, whether you want to embark upon a solo challenge or make it more of a social and supportive activity. Our fundraisers love raising money for animals.

I wanted to fundraise with THL because I sincerely support their mission of creating a better world for animals. I also had a bunch of fun when I ended up fundraising in a group with others. I remember one Christmas a bunch of us dressed up as Santa and ran a 5k which was loads of fun!

Participating in fundraisers also helps us, as supporters, to remember why we are volunteering for or working for this cause.

I've fundraised for THL on a couple of occasions and enjoyed each one. Fundraising is great on a few levels. Most importantly it's great to be contributing financially to such an effective animal welfare charity, particularly when you're doing so alongside other people and the cumulative total gets quite high. It's also a great chance to socialise with other like-minded people, particularly if you're all taking part in the same event.

Future fundraisers

Thanks to our growing development team, we will soon be running many more fundraisers. We look forward to seeing what new and creative ways we and our supporters come up with to help animals.

And fundraisers are not just good for raising money and awareness; they can help to raise the issue of animal welfare in general and are a great way of bringing this issue up with family and friends who may not otherwise be receptive to a conversation about it.

It's an amazing way to raise awareness as well as raise money and can be a really gentle way of raising the issue of animal welfare and promoting your activism more generally.
